The original mysql_ functions are deprecated and should not be used as they are unsafe and no longer being maintained or developed. Unlike MySQLi, PDO is only object-oriented and supports a number of different database types that use PHP, such as MySQL, MSSQL, Informix, and PostgreSQL. Meanwhile, MySQLi sees data as a set of interchangeable objects with functions, allowing users to add or remove data easily. The original MySQL breaks down a task into linear, step-by-step procedures, which makes it difficult to modify because you have to edit the code from the top. MySQLi is both procedural and object-oriented, with the former being the attribute inherited from the older version of MySQL. MySQLi stands for MySQL Improved. ![]() That’s nearly twice as bright as even the latest premium OLED TVs can go with full-screen bright images. It’s worth mentioning, too, given the 98Q80C’s clear desire to offer a viable cut-price alternative to king-sized OLED TVs, that it achieves between 700 and 770 nits across the picture preset board with a full-screen white HDR signal. Brightness dropped around 300 nits with each of the most useful three presets using a 1% white window - a pretty natural result of a 98-inch TV driven by 120 local dimming zones. ![]() Happily, though, the other much more effective Standard, Movie and Filmmaker Mode presets all turned in figures comfortably above 1000 nits on the same 10% window. It’s designed, basically, for in-store conditions, not your living room. Not that I’d recommend that anyone actually use the Dynamic preset for real-world viewing. This was achieved in Dynamic mode, with the TV’s local dimming set to ‘high’. Talking of brightness, I measured the 98Q80C to be capable of delivering a peak brightness output of 1173 nits on a white HDR window covering 10% of an otherwise black screen. The Quantum Dot color engine, meanwhile, should enable the 98Q80C to deliver a more vibrant color palette capable of handling more brightness without tones and shades starting to look thin. IPS panels can offer slightly wider effective viewing angles, but find it notoriously difficult to control the amount of light that seeps through them during dark scenes.ĭetail of the 98Q80C's connections. It will surely help the 98Q80C’s light control that it uses a VA type of LCD panel rather than an IPS one. To abuse a common phrase, it’s not always the number of dimming zones you have that counts, but what you do with them. Surely, some will shout, in a year where we’ve seen much smaller TVs - including from Samsung - sporting literally hundreds more dimming zones than the 98Q80C carries, 120 just isn’t going to be enough to deliver a great picture on a 98-inch screen.Įven before getting into the 98Q80C’s performance, though, I’d counter this argument by saying that there’s been plenty of first-hand evidence over the years to show that while having gazillions of dimming zones can certainly class as a ‘good start’, it’s not the be all and end all of a great TV picture. ![]() I can hear the sharp intakes of breath from here. A status that boils down to a total dimming zone count on the 98Q80C of 120 (as confirmed by a visit to the TV’s service menus). Samsung describes the 98Q80C’s dimming engine as Supreme UHD Dimming - which, despite how grand it sounds, actually sits a step down from the top level Ultimate UHD Dimming engine Samsung saves for models that have the highest number of dimming zones. While the extra light controls and precision mini LED TVs provide might well have helped the 98Q80C in its battle against the key issues king-sized LCD screens can face, though, it does at least use a direct full array panel design with local dimming (where different zones of its LEDs can be set to output different light levels with any given frame, independent of the other LED zones). ![]() ![]() lemon juice concentrate -> en:concentrated-lemon-juice - labels: en:organic - vegan: yes - vegetarian: yes - percent_min: 0 - percent_max: 25.cane sugar -> en:cane-sugar - labels: en:organic - vegan: yes - vegetarian: yes - percent_min: 0 - percent_max: 50.tapioca syrup -> en:tapioca-syrup - labels: en:organic - vegan: yes - vegetarian: yes - from_palm_oil: no - percent_min: 8.33333333333333 - percent_max: 100.In chemical terms, agar is a polymer made up of subunits of the sugar galactose. ![]() For commercial purposes, it is derived primarily from ogonori. ![]() Vermont Sail Freight’s founder, Erik Andrus, said only one crop would deliver an ROI of $0.50 to $1.00 per pound of weight: Pot. What’s more, to realize a profit, sailing ships need premium cargo. Port infrastructure might be set up for recreational boats with floating docks that make loading tricky or for the giant post-Panamax cruise and cargo ships. Routes aren’t operable year-round, and - as in the past - sticking to a schedule can be difficult. Today’s sailing ships have biodiesel engines or solar batteries to augment wind power, plus GPS and plotting technologies to plan efficient routes. While sail may have traditional roots, its means have been updated. plans to offer a traditional skills apprenticeship program, where participants can learn shipbuilding, blacksmithing or woodwork - all green jobs. Through its 3½-year build process for Ceiba (a 45-meter sailing cargo vessel with a chilled hold space and 25-ton cargo capacity, crafted from sustainably harvested wood), Sail Cargo Inc. will open a carbon-neutral shipyard in Costa Rica. Schooner Apollonia plans to launch on the Hudson River by year end, bringing cider, beer and apples downstream to New York City. Dutch-based Tres Hombres crosses the Atlantic with cacao, coffee and rum. U.K.-based Grayhound Lugger crosses the English Channel, trading Cornish ale and organic French wine. In recent years, sail cargo projects have sprung up along old trade routes. As some in the industry look to lower their carbon footprint, there’s renewed interested in wind power. The International Maritime Organization estimates that shipping emissions will increase by an additional 50 to 250 percent by 2050. Tall ships seemed destined for nostalgia, until - nearly a century later - the winds shifted once more.įrom 2012 to 2017, shipping accounted for 3.1 percent of global CO2 emissions. By World War II, sailing ships were restricted to commercial fishing trades. With the opening of the Panama Canal and the onset of World War I in 1914, sail’s demise seemed assured. Overland transport improved, too, with railroad expansion.īy the turn of the 20th century, countries were abandoning sailing ships in favor of steamers, which offered reliability and greater cargo space. Later, in 1869, the Suez Canal opened and gave an advantage to steamer ships, which could complete the Europe- Asia route in 50 days. When American banks shuttered in the Panic of 1857, trade slowed, as did the demand for sailing ships. The Great Tea Race occurred between two dips in the popularity of sailing. Ninety-nine days after leaving Fuzhou, Taeping and Ariel docked within 20 minutes of one another and split the premium.īut as 45 million pounds of tea flooded the market, tea prices plummeted, illustrating one of sail’s disadvantages: Ships couldn’t keep a schedule, which meant supply-side volatility. The first ship to clear customs had an early advantage, but favorable winds, stronger tugboats and the luck of the tides made for a competitive 16,000-mile race between five of the day’s fastest clippers, Flying Cloud among them. The Great Tea Race of 1866 demonstrated the logistics underlying tea mania. The first ship of the season to reach London’s docks would win a premium. Thirst for tea was such that a so-called tea clipper could earn £3,000 from one cargo load - roughly 20 to 25 percent of shipbuilding costs. These greyhounds of the sea were the obvious choice for the British Empire’s most prized cargo: tea. Flying Cloud set a world record for this trip, which stood for more than 100 years, when it arrived in San Francisco after 89 days, 21 hours. While wealthier passengers could spring for Panama-bound steamers, take the train across Panama, then steam up the West Coast, most forty-niners endured a five- to seven-month journey around Cape Horn via clipper ship. A clipper ship could reach more than 15 knots and cover 300 nautical miles in a day, easily outpacing a steamer ship’s 9 knots.ĭuring the Gold Rush, in 1849 - 20 years before completion of the transcontinental railroad - ships carried 25,000 Americans west. First developed around 1845 by American shipbuilders looking to give small fishing boats an edge over pursuing pirates, clipper ships evolved to carry modest amounts of cargo at unparalleled speeds. The visually striking clippers had strong lines, V-shaped bows that sliced through water and dozens of sails to capture wind. There are many transport options, from public transport to scooters, and walking!. Most of the people I've come across are very kind, and I feel very safe in Tempe! It is also very accessible, even if you don't have a car. The rent prices for apartments in the area can be a bit high, but I think that most of them are nice enough that the price is worth it. There are fun things to do indoors as well as outdoors, and some of my favorite places include Papago Park and Tempe Town Lake. As a student there, however, I really like that there is almost always something going on in town, and there are lots of fun places around! The summers in Tempe can be very hot, but winters are typically mild. It is a bit of a college town, since Arizona State University - Tempe is located there, so that may not be for everyone. Most of my experience is in Downtown Tempe, which is a very nice area. Other: In my opinion, Tempe is a wonderful place to live! The scenery is beautiful, and the community is lively. The reason why Gilbert was so special is being changed by outsiders. We do not want our community inundated with Californians. Now there are ugly apartment complexes on every corner and too many people have moved here from other states. That is a great thing for a city! The reason I did not give my rating five stars is because Gilbert has changed too much! There used to be open space and beautiful farm fields. The Mormons are just actively involved in their religion and their communities. That obviously has to do with the residents! Why not get to know the people that live here instead of judging everyone? FYI, there are double the amount of Catholics in Gilbert than Mormons, and other Christian religions are a higher percentage than Mormons too. Gilbert is known for being a wonderful place to live. I have read comments about a lack of diversity and complaints about those that are Mormon. Gilbert is a clean city with clean people. Read 76 reviewsĬurrent Resident: My husband and I grew up here.
